Following the protests over George Floyd's murder in 2020, Philadelphia restructured the way its own residents oversee the country's 4th largest police department. Today the city's Citizens Police Oversight Commission (CPOC) still lacks a permanent leader but has been hard at work nonetheless. Acting Executive Director Anthony Erace will talk about the new agency's mission, structure, challenges, and aspirations to become a national model for police reform and oversight. He was a driving force behind converting the former Police Advisory Commission (PAC) into CPOC and says accountability, transparency, and equity have been the guiding principles of his career. Prior to CPOC, Anthony had been Deputy Executive Director of the predecessor agency since 2017. Previously, he served nearly 10 years as a Senior Investigator with the Philadelphia Office of the Inspector General, where he led criminal and administrative investigative teams that fought fraud, waste, abuse, and corruption in city government.
