$15 - $25

The Philadelphia Committee on City Policy invites you to attend a Redistricting Reform and Gerrymandering Panel Discussion on Thursday, September 14, 12 noon to 1:30PM, at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia (215 S 16th St.). The luncheon's special guests include Chris Satullo, civic engagement consultant for the Committee of Seventy, Ben Geffen, staff attorney for the Public Interest Law Center, and Robert Cheetham, CEO for civic geospatial software and data analytics firm Azavea. The discussion will begin with an overview of the impacts of redistricting after every decennial Census, how Gerrymandering is (mis)used, why this issue is so important to us in Philadelphia, and the current state of organizing to ensure fairer maps after the 2020 Census. There will be an update on the important current Supreme Court lawsuit challenging the last PA remapping that could change the maps for coming elections. And there will be an opportunity to try out some amazing GIS tools that, if funded, could allow the public to easily draw its own lines and promote transparency and fairer representation in Philly and PA and across the country.
