Join us on Thursday, April 17 for a fascinating conversation with Ron Caplan and Leo Addimando, leaders in Philadelphia residential and industrial real estate development. If you've travelled lately on JFK Boulevard near 30th Street Station, you've probably seen one of their latest projects, a rounded apartment tower overlooking the Schuylkill River. Or along West Market Street at 17th Street, you may have seen the city's largest office-to-residential conversion at the former Morgan Lewis building. They will discuss these projects and others, the state of real estate development, and the city's prospects at this crucial moment in residential construction and office-to-residential conversion. Ron Caplan, President and founder of PMC Property Group, is a native of New England who studied business management at Northeastern University before relocating to the Philadelphia area and launching his career in real estate development. In 1978, what started with the purchase of several single-family homes soon expanded into a collection of multi-unit housing ventures located throughout Philadelphia. In 1981, Ron founded PMC Property Group (formerly Philadelphia Management Company) after his property holdings grew robust enough to require the services of a management company. Later, Ron assembled a general-contracting division within PMC Property Group, making the company a full-service developer. Today, PMC Property Group is focused on adaptive-reuse and ground-up new construction projects. Under his strategic direction and detailed, personal approach, the company has become the largest owner/operator of rental units in Philadelphia and holds a strong presence in urban centers spanning 13 cities across 8 states along the East Coast. Leo Addimando, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Alterra Property Group, has spent almost 20 years as a real estate entrepreneur. His experience includes acquiring and developing industrial properties in 30-plus states, closing more than $2.5 billion in transactions, acquiring or developing more than 3,500 residential units, structuring dozens of complex transactions, and overseeing all aspects of residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use real estate development projects. At Alterra, Leo provides overall vision and leadership; serves on its Investment Committee; raises capital; oversees residential, mixed-use, and industrial development; and spearheads the firm’s residential/mixed-use development and investment strategy. Prior to Alterra, Leo helped expand revenue at the travel booking website Orbitz.com, contributing to its successful IPO in 2003. Before Orbitz, Leo served as an Associate for the Boston Consulting Group. Leo has an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a B.A. in economics and political science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is a board member and recent past President of the Building Industry Association of Philadelphia, an Advisory Board member for the Port of Philadelphia, and a member of the global executive network Young Presidents' Organization.
