PCCP brings you rich and varied data about Philadelphia from The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Philly-bred global research organization that has recently released its annual compendium about Philadelphia and comparable U.S. cities. Pew's Philadelphia research director, Katie Martin, will show and discuss the main findings of Pew's 2024 State of the City report. Pew has tagged 2024 a year of transition for Philadelphia, which has a new mayor in Cherelle Parker and many fresh perspectives in City Council. Katie will go over dozens of data points on almost every aspect of the city, including the economy (it's in relatively good condition), poverty and economic disparities (still not good), demographic makeup (more diverse, educated, and international), public safety and crime (not as bad as you may think), as well as health and health care, education, and the list goes on. Find Pew's 2024 report and all previous annual reports, which are produced by its Philadelphia Research and Policy Initiative, at its website www.pewtrusts.org/stateofthecity. Before joining Pew, Katie served as Deputy Policy Director in the office of Mayor Michael Nutter. She holds bachelor’s degrees from Boston University in philosophy and political science, and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Pennsylvania. PCCP's own vice president Tom Ginsberg, a colleague of Katie's at Pew, will moderate the discussion afterward.
